- As the tablemat heats up, use your hands to smooth out the wrinkles while the PVC is still warm and pliable. This method is gentler than ironing and is suitable for small wrinkles or when you’re worried about damaging the tablemat.
Method 2: Using Weights
The use of weights is a simple yet effective way to remove wrinkles, especially for tablemats that have minor wrinkles.
- First, lay the wrinkled PVC tablemat on a large, flat surface, such as a table or the floor. Make sure the surface is clean and smooth to avoid creating new wrinkles.
- Place heavy objects, such as books or bricks, evenly across the surface of the tablemat. The weight distributed over the tablemat will gradually force the wrinkles out as the PVC slowly conforms to the flat surface.

Method 4: Soaking in Warm Water
Soaking the PVC tablemat in warm water can also be an effective way to remove wrinkles.
- Fill a bathtub or a large basin with warm water. The water temperature should be warm but not hot to avoid damaging the PVC.
- Gently place the wrinkled tablemat into the warm water. Let it soak for about 15 – 20 minutes. During this time, the PVC will become more flexible.
- After soaking, carefully remove the tablemat from the water and lay it flat on a clean, dry surface. Use a soft towel to pat the tablemat dry, removing as much water as possible.
- As the tablemat dries, smooth out the wrinkles with your hands. You can also use weights as described earlier to help the tablemat dry flat and wrinkle – free.
Tips for Preventing Wrinkles
- Proper Storage: When not in use, store PVC tablemats flat rather than rolling them up. If you need to roll them, make sure to roll them loosely and use a cylinder of appropriate size to support the roll.
- Avoid Sharp Folds: When handling the tablemats, try to avoid creating sharp folds. Sharp folds can cause permanent wrinkles.
- Use Protective Covers: If you’re transporting the tablemats, use a protective cover to prevent them from getting wrinkled due to friction or pressure.
